Martineau Johnson has rocked Cobbetts' Birmingham office by poaching a construction team to increase its market share of work arising from the burgeoning building and civil engineering sectors.
The raid, which saw construction litigation partner Stephen Belshaw and associate Ne'ema Bowen join Martineaus, has split Cobbetts' team, leaving just two partners and one associate in its Birmingham construction and engineering department.
Belshaw, who was a Lee Crowder partner before it merged with Cobbetts in December 2003, has joined Martineaus as a partner and has been brought in to strengthen the construction team's business development.
Martineaus managing partner Bill Barker said: "Construction law continues to be a growth point for Martineaus. Stephen will be actively involved in business development as well as handling major client assignments."
Cobbetts marketing head Andy Duxbury said: "We've gone full circle since our merger with Lee Crowder in terms of numbers. Construction is an important practice and an area we plan to invest in."
