Marks & Clerk boosts partnership with Simmons hire

Marks & Clerk Solicitors has brought on Simmons & Simmons partner and dispute resolution specialist William Cook to the firm.

Cook joins as a partner after 17 years at his former firm, where he notably represented Virgin Media in its successful High Court win at the end of last year against Gemstar over an Electronic Programme Guides (EPG) dispute.

He has now brought all related work for Virgin Media with him over to Marks & Clerk, along with all UK-based IP work for SanDisk and Nokia Siemens Networks.

He said: “Marks & Clerk is a focused IP practice. We’re nimble, we can move where we see opportunities and the requirements of clients.

“I still have a good relationship [with Simmons],” he added. “Where I can’t service clients in non-IP work of course I’ll be referring work back to Simmons because I rate their practice.”

Marks & Clerk senior partner Mark Blair said that the fact that Cook has brought his entire practice across means that the firm would be recruiting additional junior and senior assistants.

Simmons & Simmons said the wish Cook the best in his new job.
