Magic circle giants dump City LPC

Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Linklaters are to abandon the City LPC.

In what heralds a massive shake-up of the legal education sector, three of the magic circle firms in the so-called City LPC consortium will not be renewing their contracts with their preferred education providers.

Allen & Overy, Clifford Chance and Linklaters formed part of the eight-strong consortium behind the first commercially-tailored LPC.

Other consortium members are Freshfields, Herbert Smith, Norton Rose, Slaughter and May and Lovells.

The exclusive contracts with Nottingham Law School, BPP and Oxford Institute of Legal Practice ran from September 2001 and were due for renewal in the academic year 2005-6.
