Mad for Monte Carlo…

Monte Carlo played host to The Lawyer’s In-House Legal Summit last weekend – and what an event it was. A keynote speech from Citigroup’s top economist Dr Richard Reid got the ball rolling followed by a whopping 17 sessions designed specifically to stimulate lofty yet practical informed debate on the issues of the day.

One of the hottest topics, of course, was what sort of view everyone had from their balconies. Keynote speaker Reid of Citigroup was one of the lucky ones, picking up a sea view. Being inclined towards the briny stuff (when not lecturing lawyers on the economy, he’s a rower and sea kayaker), Reid chose to sleep outside on the balcony within sight and sound of the Mediterranean.

Eversheds‘ PR machine Imogen Lee also got a sea view and, like Reid, decided to sleep outside. However, Lee was rudely awoken from a dream early on Friday morning (10 November) by the voice of her next-door neighbour, Kevin Perry of Kendall Freeman, who was busy at work on his mobile phone.

Meanwhile, Francesco Portolano of Italian firm Portolano Colella Cavallo looked out onto a section of the famous Formula 1 track (the Fairmont hotel is slap-bang on the hairpin and sits above the famous tunnel). Portolano, sadly, was decidedly underwhelmed by the view, but reported that his colleagues back at the office had reacted with boyish excitement and demanded photographs. Let’s hope he obliged.
