MacRoberts employment star quits for Brodies post

Scottish firm MacRoberts lost another highly rated partner last week as Brodies announced the hire of emp-loyment partner Emma Bell.

Bell is an experienced tribunal advocate who acted for Amec Turner on the transfer of the Ministry of Defence’s management contract in Scotland. She has been a partner at MacRoberts for five years and is set to join Brodies later this year.

Over the last 18 months MacRoberts has lost eight partners, including former joint managing partner Lindy Patterson. However, projects group head Michael Murphy, who is to take over from John Macmillan as managing partner in September, denied any link between Bell’s departure and those in 2003 and 2004.

“Emma has particular reasons for wanting to join Brodies. [It] has nothing to do with whatever circumstances gave rise to the departures more than a year ago,” he said.
