Jersey firm Mourant du Feu & Jeune has established a joint venture with Scottish firm Maclay Murray & Spens in order to tap into the mass of work arising out of the island’s first employment legislation.
The move, which is 12 months ahead of the new legislation’s introduction, involves Mourant’s adoption of a model of employment law advice that Maclays already provides in London and Glasgow through its business Law at Work. Jersey currently has no employment law.
This model includes a 24-hour helpline providing advice on employment and health and safety. Law at Work also trains managers on how to look after staff.
Malcolm Mackay, chairman of Law at Work, said: “We focus on prevention rather than cure, and on being accessible and cost-effective.”
