Macfarlanes has made an addition to its corporate practice with the hire of Addleshaw Goddard partner James Dawson.
Dawson has resigned and is set to join Macfarlanes in the coming months, filling a gap left by the departure of corporate partner Garrett Hayes to Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker last year (16 June 2011).
Dawson has a broad practice, with notable clients including internet service company Tiscali, which he advised on the £236m sale of its UK business to Carphone Warehouse in 2009 and the £210m acquisition of Pipex Communications’ broadband and phone businesses in 2007 (20 July 2007). Dawson initially won the client after previously working for it while a senior associate at Linklaters, quitting in 2006 to join Addleshaws.
It is understood that Dawson - one of a large number of candidates interviewed for the role - already shares a number of client relationships with Macfarlanes and is well acquainted with several partners at the firm.
Macfarlanes senior partner Charles Martin said Dawson was a “talented lawyer with a great reputation” capable of bringing “excellent quality” to the firm.
A spokesperson for Addleshaw Goddard said: “We can confirm that James is leaving us and we wish him all the best for the future.”
