The National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia has appointed niche practice Maxwell Batley and retained it as its exclusive UK firm
The Maxwell Batley team will be led by barrister Andrew Veen, who joined from Fenwick & Co last May, and will also include banking partners Jonathan Ashbridge and Fraser McColl. Veen, who focuses on banking and company and commercial work, was introduced to the bank during his gardening leave last year. He said: "They were happy with the work that was done and it ended with us being retained. "In the aftermath of the recent Balkan crisis, and in particular the troubles in Macedonia, there's much reparatory work to be done. The country's financial institutions at home and abroad are not exempt from these aftereffects, and they provide fertile ground for lawyers with innovative solutions to unusual problems. "The big impetus is to come into the European Community eventually."
