Macdonald, Kelsey-Fry score victory in Redknapp case

The former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Lord Ken Macdonald QC and Cloth Fair Chambers’ John Kelsey-Fry QC have successfully defended football bosses Harry Redknapp and Milan Mandaric from charges of tax evasion.
A jury cleared Redknapp and Mandaric of setting up an offshore account in Monaco to evade tax.
Redknapp is the manager of Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club but previously managed Portsmouth under Mandaric’s ownership. Mandaric is now the owner of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.
Macdonald, who stepped down as DPP in October 2008 to return to practice at Matrix Chambers, represented Mandaric in the two-week trial at Southwark Crown Court. Macdonald was instructed by Mark Wilson of Cartwright King Solicitors. Matrix’s Andrew Bodnar was also instructed for Mandaric.
Kelsey-Fry acted for Redknapp, instructed by Jane Glass at BCL Burton Copeland.
HM Revenue & Customs instructed 18 Red Lion Court’s John Black QC, with 5 Paper Buildings’ Janet Weeks.
The investigation into the allegations is reported to have cost up to £8m.

I have total faith in the outcome of a jury trial relating to alleged tax fraud involving a popular celebrity.

For an investigation that cost so much money, isn't it such a pity that it bore no fruit in the end? Don't the accused persons pay enough tax in the UK itself already? Apart from the mere entertainment value of the whole episode, this was a case which shouldn't have been initiated in the first place.
