LYON & Lyon, the Los Angeles practice, is nearing its end after Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe and Jones Day Reavis & Pogue scooped up some of its remaining partners
A team of 10 partners are joining Orrick from the failed intellectual property (IP) specialist, including Lyon & Lyon's former managing partner James Geriak. Orrick is making a concerted push into IP law after recruiting a three-partner team from Pennie & Edmonds just two weeks ago. Jones Day has added two Lyon & Lyon partners to its practice, including Coe Bloomberg and Lois Kwasigroch from the firm's LA office, while naming Brent Sokol and Michael Tomasulo as counsel at the firm. Lyon & Lyon, which was established in 1901, voted to dissolve the practice on 7 August, after merger talks with Townsend & Townsend and Crew fell through. In August, two former Lyon & Lyon partners moved to Perkins Coie, while O'Melveny & Myers took on five lawyers from the practice.
