Lovells has hired the general counsel of mortgage and consumer finance company Creditweb as of counsel in London
Roger Tym joins Lovells' retail finance team within the international financial services group. Creditweb was formed at the height of the dotcom frenzy, with a combination of German and UK businesses, and the recruitment of a senior management team in France. But in February this year, Creditweb's French and German mortgage distribution operations were acquired by Residential Funding Corporation (RFC).
"One challenge is to find ways of integrating e-commerce advice with the risk management and strategic requirements of the client's business" Roger Tym, Lovells
Tym is the second lawyer to join the group as of counsel, following Deborah Sabalot who joined from KLegal. The position is seen as a way to give lawyers the necessary status for them to be active business developers, while also reflecting the stage they are at in their careers. Tym instructed Lovells while at Creditweb and was also a client in his previous position as head of legal for the retail and services team at NatWest. He has also worked in-house at Lloyds TSB. He said: "One of the challenges for the future is to find ways of more closely integrating this kind of highly specialised advice [on e-commerce] with the risk management and strategic requirements of the client's business. By doing this, current and upcoming legal issues are taken account of and become a companion of growth, rather than an inhibitor." Emily Reid, head of Lovells' retail finance team, said: "Roger brings with him not only considerable experience but also a real feel for the issues and how they impact on a client base such as ours."
