Lovells has created five new liaison groups to ensure that all staff have a direct line to central management.
Each group will represent a different body of staff. Groups will exist for associates, senior associates, of counsel, personal assistants and support staff.
Lovells London managing partner Ruth Grant said of the scheme: "For a while I've been conscious of the fact that people have line managers in the form of partners whom they communicate with. But there was no opportunity to liaise with central management directly."
The groups are intended to "operate as a forum for their population to feed in questions, issues, ideas, etc in relation to the firm", announced an internal email.
Grant said she hoped the new groups would act as a "conduit to management" and encourage communication between fee-earners. She explained that fee-earners can easily become "silo-ed" along departmental lines in big firms, rather than feeling part of a single body by virtue of seniority. The changes are intended to address this.
It is understood that there will be around three meetings a year, but details are still to be finalised. Ideas and issues will be discussed at each of those meetings, which will be attended by Grant in the case of fee-earners and personal assistants.
Issues will be fed back to the management by Grant and to the constituency by the representatives. Chief operating officer Nick Cray will attend the support staff meetings.
The new committees are similar to the existing trainee solicitors liaison committee, which meets quarterly with HR and a dedicated trainee liaison partner.
