Lovells has split its contentious insurance, professional indemnity and environment group in preparation for an anticipated rise in asbestos claims.
The reorganisation sees the non-contentious environmental litigation group, headed by partner Louise Moore, join the corporate department, while the two-partner pensions litigation team will be absorbed into banking and finance.
Insurance partners John Trotter and Chris Hardman will relocate to the newly-named manufacturing, commercial and product liability group, which will then house six partners.
The move is aimed at capitalising on client synergies between the different groups and was driven in part by Lovells’ desire to exploit the predicted upswing in asbestos claims in the UK and Europe.
The firm hopes to win work both from asbestos companies and insurers, which are frequently embroiled in coverage litigation arising out of asbestos claims.
