Lovells launches CEE ‘Flying Squad’

Lovells launches CEE 'Flying Squad' Lovells has launched a Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) referral programme among its best friend firms in the region for corporate, finance and real estate work.

Under the scheme 10 lawyers from the firm’s existing Budapest, Frankfurt, Prague and Warsaw offices will travel to best friends in locations where Lovells does not have outposts and gain local law advice for major clients.

The initiative, known as the ‘Flying Squad’, is based on the successful Mexican Wave concept created by head of real estate Bob Kidby, whereby Lovells farms out lower-ticket work to regional firms under a single Lovells brand.

“The Flying Squad provides more personal contact than just, ‘we know somebody in Tallinn, we’ll send a file to them’,” said Kidby.

Warsaw head of real estate Jolanta Nowakowska-Zimoch, who runs the Flying Squad, argued that the scheme allows Lovells to break into new jurisdictions without requiring?additional resources, while offering a seamless product to clients.

“We can provide the client with business advice and keep control of the structure of the transaction that’s used in the UK or Western Europe,” she said. “It’s much easier for them to accept a new market when they feel comfortable with that.”

Best friend firms targeted include Djinkov Gouginski Kyutchukov & Velichkov and Lega InterConsult in Sofia and Irina Anghel and Musat & Asociatii in Bucharest.
