The House of Lords have agreed to hear an appeal in the case of France Louis Francois. Francois is seeking parole from a prison sentence. The case raises the question of aggregation of consecutive sentences imposed by different courts on different dates to be aggregated for the purpose of calculating the prisoner's non-parole release date under the provisions of s33 of the Criminal Justice Act 1991. Francois claims the present method of calculation can result in the length of time served by prisoners seeking their freedom being substantially increased.
