Lord Hunt seeks inputs on regulation review

Lord Hunt of Wirral has kicked off his wide-ranging review of law firm regulation with a 54-page call for evidence.


Hunt, a former Beachcroft senior partner, was appointed by the Law Society last year to lead a nine-month review of how the profession should be governed in future. The call for evidence will close in April, with a full report expected this Autumn.

Lord Hunt told The Lawyer: "I want my inbox to be as full as possible. This is the moment when people should speak out about how the profession should be regulated in this rapidly changing environment."

Lord Hunt dismissed the idea that the Law Society was encroaching on the territory of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) with its review, saying that he had talked with the SRA about contributing to the report.

    Confidence?

    I am Joe Public - how can I ever believe in justice - I cant afford - I am a pensioner. I dont have an estate to sell bits off - I believed all my life in British Justice, until I tried to get it. I got a solicitor who lied, was paid for insurance but didnt get it. Breached his membership with Accident Line, his PIP was non-existant. Noone checks, confidence - its in the dictionary but not in the legal services I have tried. That includes the LCS, SRA and The Law Society. I am hoping for better from the LSO, but I have my doubts
