L'Oréal UK counsel quits for new career direction

The general counsel at L'Oréal UK Graeme Akhurst has quit the company to pursue 'personal projects'.

Akhurst has been general counsel for three years after taking over from Karen Jackson, who left the company in 2004 to join consulting group Inclusive Diversity as its head of business development.

Akhurst is staying on at the cosmetics giant until a replacement is found. He declined to elaborate on what his personal projects are. His replacement will head a team of four, reporting in to L'Oréal's UK finance director and will also be part of the company's UK senior management team.

The general counsel role involves liaising with the management committees of all L'Oréal's divisions, as well as with marketing, commercial, financial, communications and scientific teams across the business in providing advice for L'Oréal's UK and Ireland operations.

L'Oréal UK is a subsidiary of the French company L'Oréal. The global general counsel sits in Paris.
