London takes bulk of BLP partner promotions

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has promoted nine senior associates to partner across its Frankfurt, London and Moscow offices.

The promotions will take effect from 1 May 2013.

The number made up in this year’s batch is smaller than 2012’s intake, when the firm made up 11 lawyers to partner (18 April 2012) and even smaller than the year prior to that, when it made up 13 (5 April 2011). However, trawl back to 2010 and 2009 and the firm only made up eight (20 April 2010) and seven (21 April 2009) partners.

Of this year’s batch, seven were made up in London, one in Frankfurt and one in Moscow. BLP only launched an office in Germany in 2011, and the new partner in Frankfurt at BLP was one of the team to join from Linklaters (19 September 2011).

In 2012 London also had the bulk of new partners, with one each in Abu Dhabi and Singapore. In terms of practice areas, corporate was the most well represented in 2013 with four new partners, followed by tax where two was made up and then finance, litigation and real estate, which each gained one new partner. This differs from last year when litigation recieved the most new partners, followed by real estate.

Only one of the new partners, London-based real estate specialist Bonnie Mahler, trained at the firm.
