Lloyds Banking Group’s company secretary and general counsel Harry Baines is set to retire later this year with the bank’s group general counsel tipped to take on his mantle.
Former HBOS company secretary Baines was named as Lloyds Banking Group’s top lawyer in October 2008 ahead of the union between HBOS and Lloyds in January 2009 (31 October 2008).
A spokeswoman for Lloyds today confirmed that Baines would be retiring in the coming months after four years in the role and said that the bank was looking internally and externally for Baines’ replacement.
A source close to the situation, however, told The Lawyer that general counsel for group legal Kate Cheetham – who has been in the role since 2009 (28 September 2009) – was in line to get the promotion.
