Living Social legal chief jumps to King.com

Rob Miller, who has held top legal jobs at Skype and eBay in the past, joins two other in-house lawyers at King.com where he will report to CEO Riccardo Zacconi as chief legal officer. He will be responsible for all legal, regulatory and compliance matters and will be involved in King.com’s next phase of growth as a member of senior management.

The move was unplanned and comes after Miller was encouraged to speak to King.com by a headhunter.

“I’ve always worked for companies that have disrupted their industries,” Miller told The Lawyer in an interview (21 May 2012). “Skype in communications, eBay in retail, LivingSocial in local e-commerce. There are lawyers who like that environment and lawyers who don’t. I do.”

According to Miller his new position will be most like his role at Skype, where he was general counsel for almost five years. “IP will be an important issue at King.com because the company creates games in-house - Living Social was less IP focused as it was e-commerce.”

It is not known who will be replacing Miller at the Washington DC-based daily deal site, however Miller has expressed interest in hiring lawyers to join him at King.com, reported to be the second-largest games company on Facebook.

While at Skype Miller expanded the company’s in-house legal and regulatory team from five to 25 over a period that saw the company grow its user base from 50 to 600m.
