Barbara Richards, 23, a supermarket sales assistant who injured her back when she fell while working at the Poundstretcher store in Tonbridge is suing the company. The accident happened in March 1993 as she walked on a concrete access ramp at the back of the store. She claims that as a result of the injury she is unable to take long walks, cannot drive more than ten miles without discomfort, cannot play badminton, and has difficulties with household chores.

A sacked head teacher who claims his former employers offered him £17,500 in an out-of-court settlement but then refused to pay is suing for the money. The writ issued by Christopher Hampson, of Bury, Lancashire, claims the money and interest from David Vickery, chairman of the governing body of St James' Church of England School in Bolton. The writ says Hampson was summarily dismissed on April 21 last year, and on July 12 1995 applied to an industrial tribunal alleging wrongful and unfair dismissal. His case was heard by an industrial tribunal in Manchester between 5 and 8 February this year. It ended with Hampston and the governors agreeing to settle. Under the settlement, the governors were to pay Hampson £17,500 on the basis he would withdraw his action from the tribunal.

A gosport cyclist, Christopher Reynolds, who was hit by a lorry and badly injured is seeking damages from lorry driver Ian Skipper, of Gosport, and his employers H T Hughes and Sons (Transport) of Fareham. Reynolds, 45, suffered serious injuries and needed an operation to remove his spleen.
Marketing director Anthony Jones, of Hook, Hampshire, who claims he was sacked for alleged gross misconduct after refusing a redundancy settlement is suing his former employers, Badelex, of Byfleet, Surrey. Jones, who started working for the company in 1993, and earned £45,000 a year, was entitled to 12 months notice of termination, a car, private medical insurance and membership of a pension scheme. However, the writ claims he was offered just six months' salary as compensation.
