Elizabeth Mason of Blackpool, whose husband Peter was cleared of drug trafficking offences, has launched a High Court action against the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for damages in respect of assets seized from her home. In her claim, Mason is also suing a receiver for damages for losses she blames on his allegedly negligent management of Masons Restaurant, Blackpool. The claim says Peter Mason was unsuccessfully prosecuted for drug trafficking offences. But it claims that some items seized by the CPS in the run-up to the prosecution were Mrs Mason's and others were owned jointly with her husband. It alleges various business assets were also taken. Mrs Mason claims there has been serious default by those concerned in investigating and prosecuting her husband, and that as a result she has suffered losses for which she seeks compensation. She is also suing the CPS for compensation under section 19 of the Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986. In addition to damages she also seeks return of property said to have been seized from her home in February 1991.
