Manchester woman Julia Barber has launched a £50,000-plus damages claim against Port Ramsgate over the death of Stephen Jones at Ramsgate in September 1994. Barber is administrator of Jones' estate and accuses the defendants of negligence and breach of statutory duty.

The representative of a man who died after stepping in front of a lorry is being sued for damage to another lorry. The writ says Gavin Daneski stepped out of his own vehicle into the path of a lorry driven by George Scott and that in attempting to avoid him, Scott collided with another lorry. Now Keanes and Son, of London NW6, which owns the vehicle which was hit, are suing Daneski's personal representative.

A Luton man who was badly burned when a vessel of boiling pitch exploded over him is suing his former employers. James Clancy, 46, has issued a High Court writ against McNicholas Construction Co and McNicholas Communications, both of Elstree, Hertfordshire. The accident on 31 January 1993 happened when Clancy was working on a road at Melbourn, Cambridge, reinstating the old surface with hot pitch. According to the writ, he removed a vessel of boiled pitch and was about to pour it when the vessel exploded, burning him over 8 per cent of his body. Since the accident he has undergone skin grafts but has been left with scarring. He accuses his ex-employers of negligence.

Peter Ellerton, of South-ampton, has launched a damages claim against RTK Marine, of Hamworthy, Poole. Ellerton was injured while on board the vessel Raider on 25 February 1993 and blames the incident on negligent navigation or management of the vessel, which was under RTK's control at the time.

Royal Insurance (UK) faces a claim for over £300,000 from the owners of a subsiding house. Laurence and Wendy Levy, of Chigwell, accuse Royal of breach of contract. Royal has offered to pay for repairs to the house but has refused to pay for it to be knocked down and rebuilt.
