A rent collector who believed he would inherit his home when the owners died, is now suing administrators of the estate for the property. Peter Garvey is seeking a High Court declaration that the administrators of the estate of the late Marjorie West, hold the house on trust for him. He is also seeking an order to make them transfer the freehold of the property into his name. The writ says that Garvey worked part time for property owners Ralph and Marjorie West as a rent collector, and doing odd jobs, painting and decorating, from 1970 until Mr West died in 1977. Garvey claims that Mr West told him before he died that the house in Leyton, London E10 would one day be his, but he claims that the administrators have wrongfully denied he is entitled to the freehold and have instead claimed that he is merely a tenant.

Bournemouth doctor David Leonard is being sued for damages for alleged negligence in respect of treatment he is said to have given at Beaufort Road surgery in Bournemouth between November 1995 and March 1996. The writ issued by an Alan Brown, whose address is not given, does not specify the nature of the alleged negligence, but claims that he has suffered injuries and loss as a result of what happened. The claim is assessed to be worth more than #50,000.

A widow who claims her husband died after receiving negligent treatment at Harefield Hospital has launched a compensation claim. Dr Chaitenya Anand died on 1 November 1995 after being treated at the Harefield Hospital from around October 1995, according to the writ. Now his widow Mrs Shashi Anand, of Buckhurst Hill, Essex, is suing the hospital under the provisions of the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1934 and the Fatal Accidents Act 1976.

Abbey National is suing solicitors Raw & Co of Bromley, Kent, for damages and interest for alleged breach of retainer and negligence in a property transaction, by failing to advise of the true nature of the transaction, which the writ claims casts doubt on the integrity and bona fides of the borrowers. It claims the firm failed to make necessary enquiries, failed to cease to act for the borrowers and failed to act in the company's best interests. The borrowers defaulted on the loan and the property had to be repossessed and sold.

In another action Abbey National is suing solicitor Anthony Hart of Chichester, for alleged breaches of retainer, duty of care and fiduciary in respect of a mortgage transaction involving property in Holland Park, London W14, which was sold in 1988 for #295,000. The writ alleges that the transaction involved a sub sale and that Abbey National has lost more than #185,000.
