Andrew Bettiss of Winterton, Scunthorpe, is suing West Sussex Health Authority, Crawley Horsham NHS Trust, and Royal Surrey County and St Luke's Hospitals NHS Trust for damages for personal injuries and financial loss. Bettiss claims in his writ that medical staff failed to diagnose and appropriately treat his medical condition, and carried out unnecessary investigatory surgical and other procedures. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is suing the estate of a pilot who died in a mid-air collision with a Jaguar aircraft, for more than £8m. Its writ, issued against the estate of the late Robert Mark Cooper of Poole claims damages of £8,272,423 the cost the MoD puts on its total expenditure arising from damage to property following the collision in August 1991. It is claiming £80,423 and interest for damage to property, and £8,192,000 in respect of the pre-accident value of the Jaguar T2A XX843 aircraft which was destroyed in the crash.

A&J Fabrications (Batley) of Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, is suing accountants Grant Thornton, of London NW1, for damages for alleged breach of contract and negligence when it acted as liquidator of Principality Concrete Co from 3 October 1990.

A landlady from Heywood, Lancashire, is being taken to the High Court in moves to re-possess the premises she runs. Burtonwood Brewery has issued a writ against Susan Byron seeking possession of the Brunswick Hotel in Heywood, rent arrears of £6,352.62, profits until possession of £5,750 a year, damages, and an account of profits.

Halifax is suing Portman Building Society for an injunction restraining it from alleged infringement of copyright in its current account conditions and breach of written undertakings given in August this year. Halifax is also seeking an order for the discovery of all persons to whom Portman has supplied, and from whom it has acquired, articles whose sale or distribution would be a breach of the injunction and damages under the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988.
