Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Health Authority is being sued for negligence over a patient who died from hepatitis. Richard Smith died on 7 March last year after contracting hepatitis from Factor V111 concentrate. The writ was issued by his personal representative, Brenda Smith.

Royal biographer Lady Colin Campbell is being sued for libel damages by Sheila Ferguson, a member of the group, The Three Degrees, over passages in her book 'Diana in Private'. Ferguson is seeking damages from Lady Campbell and publishers Smith Gryphon and a court order banning further publication of the words of which she complains.

An Exmouth man whose brother willed his entire estate to a woman friend has launched a High Court challenge to the move. Leslie Rowlands, of Exmouth, is to ask the High Court to rule that the will which made Gladys Billson of Marston Green, Birmingham, the beneficiary, was invalid. Rowlands says his brother, Edward, who died in September last year, suffered from senile dementia. The writ says he could not understand the nature and effect of wills nor the extent of the property he was disposing of.
