A doctor who was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving in January 1994 is facing a High Court compensation claim. The action has been launched by three survivors of the accident, in which one person died. Keith Wells, Michelle Thorpe and Kieran Thorpe, suing through his mother Michelle Thorpe, have issued a writ against Dr Joseph Addy seeking damages for the crash, which took place on the A142 Soham bypass on 5 September 1993. Wells and his passengers were badly hurt in the crash, which they claim was caused by Dr Addy driving too fast, on the wrong side of the road, and not keeping a proper look out. The writ accuses him of overtaking unsafely , driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without wearing his glasses.

Sovereign Corporate of Manchester is being sued by London based Aker Oil and Gas Technology UK for u2m damages and interest of u77,589, allegedly owed as a performance bonus for work providing topsides facilities on a new Ramform vessel supplied by PGS Offshore Technology AS. The work was carried out to enable the vessel to be classified as a floating production storage and offtake vessel. In the writ Aker claims it is entitled to the bonus but, despite repeated demands, Sovereign has failed to pay.

Bromley Hospitals NHS Trust is being sued by a man who claims it is responsible for his wife's death in 1996. John McCluskey claims his wife Kerry died as a result of negligent treatment, though the writ does not specify the nature of the treatment or the circumstances leading to her death.
Planned Maintenance Engineering of London is suing Texaco Properties for u256,948.79 for professional services said to have been rendered between 10 March and 30 November 1998. Planned Maintenance is also seeking interest of u4,568.47 and continuing interest of u56.40 a day.
Writ issued by Attersolls, Reigate, Surrey
Richard O'Connell has launched an action against Gloucester Royal NHS Trust and Glan Hafren NHS Trust through his wife Elaine O'Connell. He is seeking damages for alleged medical negligence. O'Connell claims he suffered personal injuries as a result of treatment given to him at Gloucester Royal Hospital in May 1993, at the University Hospital of Wales and Mount Pleasant Hospital in Chepstow in April 1993. He is also suing over his treatment at the Health Centre in Regent Way, Chepstow, and at his home from October 1992 to September 1993.
