Injuries: Claimant is widow of electrical engineer who died, aged 53, from mesothelioma, 30 years after being exposed to asbestos fibres while working in a north Wales colliery on a project which lasted just two and a half months. Atkinson left a grown-up son and three daughters, aged 14, 19 and 2Award: £500,000 (agreed damages) £28,500 of award to be split between three daughters

Injuries: Peter Bullock, 29, died after suffering a broken neck in September 1994 in a road accident on the A4 at Froxfield, Berkshire. He left his widow (claimant) and two daughters aged 9 and Award: £260,000 (agreed damages) £40,000 of award to be split equally between children

Storey v Durham Health Authority - QBD 28 April, 1998

Claimant: Stephen Storey, 15

Incident: Medical negligence

Injuries: Claimant, a blind quadriplegic boy, was left severely brain damaged after negligent hospital care at Dryburn Hospital, Durham, in April 1983. He suffered dehydration after being diagnosed with gastroenteritis and as a result was left with severe acquired cerebral palsy. He cannot move any of his limbs and is unable to sit up
