Linklaters has caught up with Slaughter and May as the top legal adviser for FTSE100 companies.
It is the first time a firm other than Slaughters has headed the table since Hemscott began compiling the rankings in 2005.
Slaughters has traditionally been the firm of choice for large UK corporates, but Linklaters has been closing the gap for several years.
The two firms now dominate the FTSE100 with 25 clients apiece, according to the August rankings.
Slaughters’ client roster has remained static, but Linklaters has gained one company since the last Hemscott report in May, after insurance client Amlin rejoined the top 100.
Herbert Smith, Allen & Overy and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer complete the top five, with Freshfields adding two FTSE100 companies to its roster - London Stock Exchange Group and Wolseley.
Norton Rose dropped out of the top 10 after losing two of its six FTSE100 clients, including Friends Provident, which was taken over by Resolution in August.
