Links creates first head of Asia competition group

Linklaters has shaken-up its competition and antitrust practice, moving partner Erik Söderlind from Sweden to Hong Kong to become the firm’s first head of competition and anti-trust for Asia.

Söderlind will be based in the magic circle firm’s Hong Kong office from 15 September, tasked with helping to implement Linklaters’ strategy once China’s anti-monopoly law takes effect on 1 August and in preparation for plans by Hong Kong to introduce its own rules in the next year.

Linklaters’ Asia chief, Giles White, said the firm anticipates strong and increasing client demand in competition as a result of the new enforcement laws.

“Erik’s move to Asia is a key step in meeting that demand,” he said.

Söderlind will also be gearing up Linklaters in Asia for the possible opening of India’s legal market and to win new clients in Japan and South Korea, both of which are jurisdictions known for their active antitrust enforcement.
