Linklaters has appointed partner Michael Kent as the new global head of its financial markets group as the current chief Paul Nelson steps down.
Kent, who takes over as financial markets head from 1 November, has been a partner at the magic circle firm since 1999 and has more than 15 years experience in financial markets regulation.
Nelson, who founded the group 15 years ago and has led it ever since, will continue in full-time practice and will also become the first professor of regulation and compliance at the International Capital Markets Association Centre at the University of Reading.
David Barnes, the firm's global head of corporate, said: "Given the scale and importance of financial institutions, the practice is critical to the firm and an important part of our global offering to the investment banks and financial services industry."
