Brown, who will focus on developing new derivatives products, largely over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives in emerging markets, said of his move: "In today's global derivatives market, it is the genuinely global law firm which is best placed to meet clients' needs.
"I was attracted to working for a firm that has the international presences and the depth of resource which financial institutions and companies in this sector increasingly demand."
He said Clifford Chance's practice included OTC markets, exchange channels and an international element.
He was impressed by "the sheer depth of resources" which Clifford Chance had.
Linklaters head of derivatives Charles Clark wished Brown well in his new job and said he had made a valuable contribution to the derivatives group.
However, he said that Brown was only one of a number of lawyers focusing on derivatives in Linklaters.
He added that the firm practised derivatives through its global network.
