Linklaters corporate star Tom Wethered is leaving for client KPMG International.
While it is a loss, Wethered decision to go KPMG, one of the firm’s biggest clients, is a positive move for the magic circle firm as he is becoming general counsel at the accountancy firm. David Barnes is taking over as head of the group, one of four within the corproate practice, that Wethered led.
Wethered’s decision arrives at the same time as Linklaters is re-organising its London corporate group. As revealed in today’s edition of The Lawyer (20 September), the firm is aiming to balance up the 48-strong practice across the four groups. There will be some partner retirements, believed to be under five, over the next financial year.
