Linklaters has pledged to remould its private equity practice in the wake of the resignation of partners Graham White and Raymond McKeeve.
As first revealed on www.thelawyer.com on Friday, White and McKeeve have quit the magic circle firm for Chicago-headquartered Kirkland & Ellis following months of speculation about their future.
The Lawyer understands that senior associate Richard Youle, who has worked closely with White and McKeeve, will be made up to partner in the imminent internal promotion round.
Linklaters plans to fuse the private equity business with the general M&A practice.
M&A partner Charlie Jacobs, who will assume responsibility for the private equity business, said: “We’d like to integrate the private equity practice more. The standalone practice has done really well, but this gives us a chance to take stock.”
Jacobs confirmed that Linklaters would be recruiting more senior lawyers into the practice.
He said: “Yes, I am going to hire. I don’t know who or how many yet, and nothing within the next three months. It will probably be more like six to twelve months.”
