Linklaters raids CC for Dubai launch

Linklaters is to join the swath of firms entering the booming Dubai market, after raiding magic circle rival Clifford Chance to hire two lawyers to launch its local presence.

Ewan Cameron, previously head of corporate and securities at Clifford Chance’s Dubai office, will head up Linklaters’ new Dubai presence.

He will be supported by Scott Campbell, who also joins as a partner from Clifford Chance’s Dubai office, where he was a senior associate.

The office will be Linklaters’ first presence in the Gulf region and is expected to be officially opened early next year once the firm’s local licenses have been approved.

Linklaters’ projects partner Jonathan Inman will also move across from the firm’s London office at that time, as will a team of about seven associates.

As first revealed in The Lawyer (8 August), Linklaters has been investigating whether to launch a presence in the Gulf for several months.

This follows a swath of other firms, which have also launched in the region in recent months. These include Ashurst and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, as well as US firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

Managing partner Tony Angel said the Dubai office was being launched in response to clients demands and the increasing levels of investment into and out of the Gulf region.
