Linklaters partner decides against move to Mayer Brown
Linklaters competition partner Carsten Grave has decided to remain at the firm after announcing his decision to move to Mayer Brown’s Cologne office nearly two months ago.

Düsseldorf
Grave’s last day with Linklaters’ Düsseldorf arm was supposed to be at the end of August, but he had already changed his mind by that time.
The news comes after Mayer Brown announced plans to close its bases in Cologne and Berlin and launch a new office in Düsseldorf at the beginning of 2012 (17 August 2010).
Grave was unavailable for a comment, but Wolfgang Deselaers, Linklaters partner in Germany, explained that the commute from family life in Cologne to work in Düsseldorf was a factor influencing Grave’s U-turn.
Deselaers said that Grave was looking for a firm based in Cologne, with the benefits of this being less travel and more quality of life with his family. He added that this argument fell apart after Mayer Brown announced the closure of its Cologne office.
Deselaers also said that Grave realised the amount of people within the firm who value him, as well as the “incredible platform” on offer at Linklaters.
“He realised that what appealed to him in the beginning - building up and developing his practice - would take a long time [at Mayer Brown],” he added.
A spokesperson for Mayer Brown said: “We regret his [Grave’s] decision and wish him well for his future.”
