Linklaters’ New York office fails to achieve ‘platinum’ grade” />Linklaters’ New York office is embarking on a campaign to win over the firm’s ‘platinum’ core of banking and corporate clients after failing to meet targets to globalise relationships with them.

Managing partner Tony Angel said extending the firm’s relationships with the group of key clients, which includes Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Scotland and Deutsche Bank, into the US was crucial to the firm’s strategy to become the world’s largest firm.

Linklaters is currently devising a new three-year strategy leading up to 2010 in a bid to topple Clifford Chance, as exclusively reported by The Lawyer (14 August).

It is expected to accelerate its focus on globalising its complex cross-border transactional work for its core clients in order to hedge against any downturn in the market.

Angel admitted that, while Linklaters had successfully extended its core client relationships within Europe, and more recently Asia, the US office was lagging behind despite an aggressive recruitment campaign over the past three years.
