Linklaters names partner duo to head China practice

Linklaters has selected two partners to jointly run its China practice, taking over from Zili Shao who has been promoted to Asia managing partner.

Litigation partner and head of Hong Kong Marc Harvey and Beijing head Celia Lam, a corporate partner, have been appointed as joint China region managing partners.

Shao said: “The appointment of Marc and Celia underlines the firm’s strategic focus on the China region.”

Harvey had previously been up against Shao in the race to replace Giles White as Asia chief, before Shao was appointed in April.

White has joined infrastructure conglomerate Jardine Matheson as general counsel (18 February 2009).

Harvey and Lam will serve a term of four years and oversee Linklaters’ offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

The firm’s Chinese clients include Bank of China, China Telecom and China Netcom.

Harvey trained at Linklaters’ London office and moved to Tokyo in 1993. He was made a partner in the Hong Kong office in 2000.

Lam joined Linklaters from Sydney-based Freehill Hollingdale & Page in 1993 and was made partner in the Hong Kong office in 1999.
