Linklaters & Alliance has appointed a tax partner in Madrid, giving the office full tax capability for the first time.
Nicolás Martin joins as head of the Spanish tax practice from KPMG Abogados, KPMG's Spanish legal arm. He is expected to build the office and start recruiting immediately. Head of the Madrid office Miles Curley said that the firm has been looking for the right person for some time. "Tax is a core area in Linklaters and integral to all our big transactions. Martin will work closely with the corporate and finance teams," said Curley. The office in Madrid opened in January 2000 and Martin's appointment will bring the number of partners there to seven. Up until now the firm has worked closely with a local tax boutique in Madrid on the domestic side, although it has always used its own lawyers on the international side.
