Linklaters has appointed Portugal head of finance and projects, Pedro Siza Vieira, as managing partner in Lisbon.
Vieira replaces Jorge Bleck, who returns to full-time leadership of the office's corporate practice, where he will focus on business development and client management.
Vieira will also continue to lead the local finance and projects team, dividing his time between client work and management responsibilities. He will take up the role of managing partner from 1 July.
Both Vieira and Bleck joined Linklaters as partners in 2002 when the firm first established an office in Lisbon after taking over local firm Bleck Soares Siza Cardoso Correia & Associados (BSC & Associados).
Vieira and Bleck were both founding partners of BSC & Associados, having split from local firm Morais Leitão J Galvão Teles & Associados the previous year.
Linklaters' Lisbon office now has five partners and more than 30 other fee earners.
The team most notably recently advised Santander Central Hispano on Sonae's E14bn (£9.55bn) offer for Portugal Telecom, the largest-ever takeover in Portugal. It also advised Banco BPI on BCP's takeover, the second-largest ever takeover in Portugal.
