Linklaters hopefuls perform screen test

Linklaters‘ senior partner election moves into its final phase this week, with the three contenders putting out video presentations urging partners to vote for them.

Corporate partner David Cheyne, finance head Giles White and banking partner Robert Elliott each created a five-minute film outlining the reasons for their candidacy. The video was designed to supplement the candidates’ manifestos. Unlike Freshfields last year, Linklaters has not staged hustings for the election.

Some Linklaters partners have reported that the quality of the video shoot was basic and have stressed there were no production gimmicks.

However, with just days to go before the final ballot, not all partners had viewed the films. One told The Lawyer: “I’m a bit of a technophobe and I don’t know how these things work.” The election follows several months of consultation with partners around the global network, led by current senior partner Anthony Cann.

Linklaters partners could be facing another management election in a year’s time, when Tony Angel’s second term as managing partner comes to an end. Angel has not made any public indication as to whether he will stand again.
