Linklaters global asset finance chief steps down

The head of Linklaters‘ global asset finance practice Ron Gibbs is leaving the firm to move into the boardroom.

Gibbs plans to take up executive positions at shipping and aviation companies when his leaves the magic circle firm at the end of the financial year. He joined Linklaters in 1982, becoming a partner in 1989. Robert Fugard will take over as global practice leader.

Fugard told The Lawyer: “Ron established the firm’s practice and has been at the helm, taking it to a high in the industry. Ron is leaving the group in extremely good shape and he will be sorely missed.”

On his appointment, he added: “I was really the obvious choice, as we’ve been working in tandem for a few years.”

Gibbs set up Linklaters’ asset finance group with Fugard in 2000. The team has four partners in London, plus tax and real estate teams which also carry out asset finance work.
