Linklaters & Alliance's Budapest office is separating its IT and telecoms department from its corporate team as the sector continues to grow in the region.
From the beginning of next year, a team of two to three, led by lawyer Andrea Simandi, will concentrate solely on the new economy.
Since the office's inception at the beginning of this year, the firm's Hungarian practice has concentrated on finance.
But head of corporate Balazs Mathe says that IT companies are looking at the region with renewed interest due to a number of factors, including the de-liberalisation of the telecoms market.
He adds: "There are all sorts of dotcom businesses moving out here which are primarily bringing due diligence and research into the region - there is a lot of interest."
Although the firm has recently won two new IT clients, Mathe is unable to name them.
