Linklaters has appointed Portugal head of finance and projects Pedro Siza Vieira as managing partner in Lisbon.
Vieira replaces Jorge Bleck, who returns to full-time leadership of the corporate practice in Portugal, where he will focus on business development and client management.
Vieira, will continue to head the local finance and projects team, sharing his time between client work and management responsibilities. His appointment as managing partner is effective 1 July.
He joined Linklaters as a partner in 2002 from Lisbon firm Bleck Soares Siza Cardoso Correia & Associados, law firm when the firm first established an office in Portugal.
Linklaters was the first magic circle firm to establish an office in Portugal. The office now comprises five partners and more than 30 other fee earners.
The team most notably recently advised Santander Central Hispano on Sonae’s €14bn offer for Portugal Telecom, the largest ever takeover in Portugal. It also defended Banco BPI against BCP’s hostile takeover, the second largest ever takeover in Portugal.
