Linklaters and Freshfields grab €3.1bn ProSieben deal

Linklaters and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer have scooped lead roles on the private equity acquisition of German broadcaster ProSieben.Sat1 Media (ProSieben).

Freshfields advised private equity houses Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co (KKR) and Permira on their EUR3.1bn acquisition of a majority stake in ProSieben. The Freshfields team was led by corporate partner Andreas von Werder and IP partner Thomas Tschentscher.

Last year, the firm advised Permira and KKR on their EUR1.9bn acquisition of international media group SBS Broadcasting.

The seller, German Media Partner, was advised by Hogan & Hartson on the regulatory side and Weil Gotshal & Manges on the corporate side.

Linklaters advised the German broadcaster and the team was led by Munich partner Rainer Traugott and Philipp Strumpell.

Simpson Thacher Barlett advised the private equity houses on the finance side while Noer Stiefenhofer Lutz provided broadcasting advice.

The deal is subject to the approval by antitrust and media regulators.
