CMS Cameron McKenna’s Belgian best friend CMS Lexcelis has secured a merger with Brussels corporate firm DeBacker that will double the Belgian presence in the CMS network.
Lexcelis, also based in Brussels, has 25 lawyers while DeBacker has 31. Name partner Jean-Marie DeBacker will be senior partner of the merged firm and Lexcelis partner Arnaud de Meeus managing partner.
Earlier this month, CMS finally signed a Spanish member – former Lovells merger target Albiñana Suárez de Lezo (ASL), one of the last independents in Spain.
ASL baulked at full financial integration with Lovells and called off long-running merger talks with the City firm last year.
Prior to the deal with ASL, talks had stalled between the CMS network and several Spanish firms including Roca Junyent.
CMS executive partner Robert Derry-Evans said of the Belgian deal: “DeBacker’s established corporate credentials, alongside Lexcelis’ commercial roots, will deliver the CMS level of service that clients are looking for in the Belgian market.”
