Key metrics point to Lewis Silkin having had an excellent year in 2011-12. Both total turnover and net profit increased by 10 per cent, with firmwide revenue rising by £3.5m to £39.1m.

Net profit was also up, by £800,000, to £8.2m. Although Lewis Silkin added one equity partner to its ranks in the year, average profit per equity partner also rose by 8.5 per cent to £357,000.

Shortly after the financial results were announced the firm opened an office in Cardiff, making it the firm’s third office in the UK after London and Oxford. The opening was led by one of the firm's London-based employment partners, who relocated to Cardiff to manage the new office, and around 10 staff in the local market are expected to be recruited by the end of 2013.

Lewis Silkin’s practice area focus remains heavily slanted towards employment and media work. Around 40 per cent of fees came from employment and another 18 per cent from media-related matters in 2011-12. Almost all of the firm’s practice areas performed well, with most up by around 10 per cent, except for real estate, which remained flat. Property work accounts for 15 per cent of revenue at Lewis Silkin.
