Personal computer manufacturer Lenovo has hired Michael O'Neill as senior vice-president and general counsel from US firm Howrey.
O'Neill will be responsible for the company's legal, corporate governance, security and government relations globally and will be reporting directly to the company's chief executive and president William Amelio.
He replaces outgoing general counsel James Shaughnessy, who has joined online travel company Orbitz Worldwide as senior vice-president and general counsel.
The move marks O'Neill's return to the in-house circuit after a stint as a partner at Howrey, where he played a key role in the establishment of the firm's Brussels office.
O'Neill had previously been general counsel for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Canadian and US manufacturer Honeywell, and vice-president and general counsel for the Transportation and Power Systems Organisation in the US.
