LEICESTER University has won the final of Boardroom Blitz - the business game for law students run by Berwin Leighton in association with The Lawyer. Forty teams of second-year students had to run fictional companies, making decisions on issues such as sales, marketing and research and development, until they were whittled down to five finalists over six rounds. The teams' decisions were fed into a computer, which totted up each company's profits. In the final, Leicester won with £6.02m profit, followed by Manchester University, Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, Hull University and Sheff ield University. All the teams reported healthy profits, except Sheffield, which lost £147,000. Leicester's captain, Hem-anth Kissoon, says the team based its strategy on Virgin, with low production costs and high prices to maximise profits and sales.
