Legrand takes helm as DLA senior partner for EMEA

DLA Piper has appointed litigator Janet Legrand as new senior partner for Europe and Asia.

She succeeds Peter Wayte, who has held the role since April 2005, and who is to retire from the partnership at the end of the month.

As senior partner Legrand will chair the international LLP board and will be responsible for governance of the partnership.

She was also continue to carry out client work in the litigation team.

DLA Piper joint CEO Sir Nigel Knowles said: “Peter is undoubtedly a tough act to follow but having worked closely with Janet, who has been a fellowboard member for many years, I know she brings a unique set of skills to the role and will strengthen our management at Board level and the partnership as a whole.”

Legrand is best known for work on the litigation surrounding the collapse of textiles company Polly Peck in the 1990s and more recently on anti-corruption proceedings brought by the government of Zambia against former president Dr Chiluba.

An election to select a board member to replace Legrand on the international board will be held in July.
